Soapbox:
N8XMS - I decided to see if I could complete the November challenge without repeating any callsigns, and by only using contacts made during ARRL CW Sweepstakes. Not only was it possible, but I think that I could have done it with two or three completely different lists of calls. I also picked up about six more calls for the "Suffix words" award that I recently started to work on. It was a very productive weekend of hamming!

K2HPV - Like many others, I'm sure, I used the ARRL CW Sweepstakes to finish this challenge. It was fun and I always enjoy operating the Sweepstakes as QRP. Usually win first place for SNJ (very few if any enter as QRP from SNJ).

K3WWP - In a neverending endeavor to make our challenges a bit more challenging, I decided to only use letters from stations who answered my CQ's or tailended me, and NO contest QSO's. I also tried to use as few stations as possible, but stopped when I narrowed it down to 17. I probably could juggle some more and drop it lower, but (fill in an excuse for me). HI It turned out to be fairly easy to do it that way, so I'll have to find something even more challenging for our next alphabet challenge.

W2JEK - used one letter per callsign. calls were from arrl sweepstakes, cq-we and lz dx contests and naqcc sprint in 66 qso's, happy thanksgiving to all. 72 and 73 don younger #1135

N1LU - I slacked off this month. It took me until the next to the last day of the month to get all the letters (for 7 of the 8 words). Did the NAQCC and SKCC sprints with similar bad conditions. Fun as usual - alphabet challenges are my favorite so far.

N9AKF - I completed all of the words except for those which had the letter P in them. I heard a few calls during the month that included the letter P, but just couldn't manage to contact any of them. As a result, my Plymouth Pilgrims had no PumPkin Pie this year. Maybe next year. I had fun as always with this word challenge, and enjoyed each contact that I made. See you all next month. Bart, nr 1252

PREMISE:
Wow, the NAQCC is old enough now to have a FIFTH running of an annual challenge. This was our second ever challenge back in 2004 although it was called an event back then, not a challenge. We felt that challenge was a more appropriate name for these monthly events and switched names early in 2005.

Those of you familiar with our alphabet type challenges will know the concept. An alphabet challenge involves making words from letters in the calls of stations worked. For example if you work K3WWP, N2OO, WA8REI, and DK5WW, you've made the words "WORD", "PORK" and others I won't list here. We give you a list of words to be made dealing with a topic related to the month. Hence for November it's Thanksgiving words.

Here's what one member says so accurately about our alphabet type challenges and it actually applies to our other challenges as well, "I find the word challenges to be my favorite because you have to put some serious logging type skills to use with your on air operating. I think the combination of on air operating, logging, and arranging of words makes for a more realistic operating experience. It makes for a more rounded radio operator." - Mike KC2EGL

If you're looking for an easy way to keep track of an alphabet challenge, here is a tutorial that will make it very simple for you.

TIME FRAME:
Nov 1, 2008 0000Z through Nov 30, 2008 2400Z

RULES:
You must use QRP and the other station can be using any power. You can use any antenna you want.

Make as many words as you can from this list of Thanksgiving related words.

TURKEY
CRANBERRY
PUMPKIN PIE
MAIZE
VENISON
PILGRIMS
MAYFLOWER
PLYMOUTH ROCK

For reference, the following 22 letters are contained somewhere in the words:
A B C E F G H I K L M N O P R S T U V W Y Z

You can use a letter in a call TWICE. For example, N3AQC's N could be used in VENISON and PUMPKIN PIE.

If a call has two or more of the same letters, only one may be used. For example, only one of the three E's in K3EEE could be used for two E's in the words (for example MAIZE and TURKEY). You can't use the two extra E's for anything.

Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only get two K's from his call.

AWARDS:
A certificate goes to everyone who makes ALL the words. A 9X12 SASE ($1.00 postage) appreciated, but not necessary.

PARTICIPATION AWARD AND WEB LISTING:
Anyone submitting a report gets a Participation Point and a web listing, even if you make only 1 word.

For your report, just list the words you made and the stations used for each word as in:
