IK4PKK ============Soapbox: K3WWP - I think mastering the challenge twice in the limited time I get to operate proves to my satisfaction that it shouldn't be too hard for anybody if we stick to around 70-90 letters in our alphabet challenges. I used this challenge as a test to see just how hard or easy it would be to master a challenge under our modified rules of no contest QSO's and counting all letters in a call that has 2 or more of the same letters. Except near the end of the second go around, I didn't really search for any letters, but just let them come as they may. I got them mostly by my CQ's or answering a CQ from someone who happened to have a needed letter in their call. I didn't spend an inordinately large amount of time in the challenge. Just the usual time I spend getting my daily QRP and/or QRPp QSO's plus an extra hour here and there. N1LU - Making sprint and contest qso's ineligible certainly makes for a more challenging challenge. Was fun and, yes, challenging. N8XMS - This was a really fun challenge for me. I made 47 non-contest QSOs during the month, which is actually a high count for me, but I just wasn't getting the letters that I needed - especially the R's. Coming into the last weekend I was still missing 7 letters so I started to actively hunt for them - tuning up and down the bands monitoring QSOs in progress and then making a tail-end call if there was a letter that I needed. It really came down to the wire with my last R coming 25 hours before the end of the month and with only about 2 hours of my available operating time left! BTW, why were half of the groundhogs from Pennsylvania? I live in the "Wolverine State." Is PA the "Groundhog State?" (You'd have to ask Tom to be sure, but I guess because the NAQCC is headquartered in PA and the most famous of all groundhogs lives here - K3WWP) K1IEE - After a few weeks I realized that it would help to focus on specific letters in the call signs. The letter R was a hard one for me. I like having the words before we start. Used the HW-8 with 1 watt or less. Enjoyed the challenge. Thanks to all. 73 Dick W2JEK - A good challenge. The sunspots are coming back. Used 22 dx calls and 2 U.S. calls. At the end had to find e's and r's to finish. The s**w is almost gone here and wonder what the woodchucks predicted. (Phil predicted an early end to winter and for the most part he was right on here in Western PA - K3WWP) 73 Don Younger W2JEK #1135 VE3FUJ - It just wasn't in the cards that I should get the last "L" and an "X" , Where were you guys with the X's, out of 44 qso's not one single "X" even listening specifically for calls with "X"'s in them. It was an enjoyable Challenge nevertheless. Brion VE3FUJ PA1B - I read about the January Challenge and made 3 QSO's with less than 1 W. I did not send and made 10 QSO's with milliwatts in February. After I sent in, I discovered the Groundhog theme. And I can make two words. Being so eager to use less than 1 W, I breached the 1000 Miles per Watt boundary 3 times, just by using 450 mW. HA6NW - 1570 MPW, HG2011EU - 1571 MPW and II3ANT - 1161 MPW. Notice that using 500 mW instead of 1 W, makes your signal just 1/2 S-point LESS loud. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words.
