I did have the challenge completed around the 20th save for one last very elusive O. It took another 8 days to get that single O. Finally I caught K9OZ calling CQ and worked him to finish up. These challenges are really somewhat challenging when you don't get all that much air time. Basically I get about a half-hour per day in the evening - just long enough to get my streak QSO for the day. That's been pretty much it lately. There's still a lot of work to do with the club even though some of the tasks have been handed off to some very able and willing helpers. Next month may be really challenging if I don't change my schedule. It will be rough getting those western call areas during the time I get to operate. However if I am able to get on at the right times, it should be fairly easy - we'll see what transpires. N8XMS - After being skunked in our challenges the last two months I was really determined to complete this one but the schedule that my daughter's wedding produced didn't make it easy! (Take a look at newsletter #165 for a ham radio related report about the wedding.) Even a spare 10 or 15 minutes was often used to quickly tune across the bands to look for needed letters. That's why many of my letters came from quick 30-second "599.599" kinds of QSOs with DX stations. Generally speaking I always prefer a nice conversation but sometimes "yah just do what yah gotta do!" - 73 K1IEE - The letter B brought me to the last minute and finally I found VO1BB. During the month I observed a Bluejay, Chickadee, Goldfinch, Redwing, Robin and a Sapsucker. Had a fun time. 73 Dick VE3FUJ - Again it was most challenging and enjoyable. By abt mid month I only needed 2 o's and 2 i's, and wouldn't you know I got my o's, but didn't manage to get my i's, so I had to post my score with 2 missing words. Time travel capability would have been nice. Thanks to all who had a hand in putting all this together, and to all the op's behind the contacts that I made Brion 3011 WB0QQT - Well 2 words doesn't look like much but what the heck........I tried. I just wanted to submit my entry to let you know even though I don't place very high in the challenges due to time restraints I still enjoy them and made 18 QSO's for the month. All in all it was fun! Keep up the FB work John..........I appreciate it. 72's........Steve W2JEK - IT WAS A LOT OF FUN COLLECTING THE LETTERS. USED MY YAESU FT-840 WITH WIRE ANTENNAS AND STRAIGHT KEY. 72 AND 73 DON YOUNGER W2JEK # 1135 PREMISE: This is a month when migrating birds return and those that live in the woods during winter return to cities and towns, so..... Yes, you guessed right. This month to master the challenge, you make bird species names. NOTE: The rule stating a letter in a call can only be used twice was accidentally omitted from this page originally, but the rule is still in effect for this and all alphabet challenges. TIME FRAME: The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z RULES: Simply make all the words in the list below from the calls of stations you work to master the challenge. NO contest or sprint QSOs allowed. BLUEBIRD BLUEJAY CARDINAL CHICKADEE GOLDFINCH HERON INDIGO BUNTING MEADOWLARK ORIOLE REDWING ROBIN SAPSUCKER For reference the following 22 letters are contained in the challenge: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P R S T U W Y You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's. Subsequent QSOs with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words. K3WWP, K3WWP/8, and K3WWP/M are considered the same station. GM/K3WWP and DL/K3WWP are considered different stations since a separate license or authorization is required for both operations. AWARDS: A certificate and Participation Point go to everyone who makes all 12 names and submits their results before the deadline. A Participation Point goes to everyone who makes at least 1, but not all 12 names and submits their results before the deadline. PRIZES: Some challenges involve a prize. Check the Prize page in the main section of the webs site for more info. LOGS: For your report, list the words you made and the station used for each letter in the word. The number of stations listed must be the same as the number of letters in each word, even though you use the same station for more than one letter as in: WORD - K3WWP, N2OD, WA8REI, N2OD Note how N2OD is listed for both the O and D. You may also include details about the challenge in your soapbox comments. Please preface any comments you want posted with "SOAPBOX:" so we will know what you want posted and what is private. Send your results to: E-mail: You must type that address into your email program. Subject must read: (your call) NAQCC (month) Challenge For example: K3WWP NAQCC May Challenge Postal mail: John Shannon, K3WWP 478 E.
