Soapbox:
K3WWP: Each NAQCC alphabet challenge is just as interesting and enjoyable as every other NAQCC alphabet challenge. They never grow old or stale. I love them. Thanks to Tom WY3H for 'inventing' them way back just after the NAQCC was formed in October 2004. I mastered this one rather quickly thanks in part to my new panadapter which allows scanning the bands quickly and zeroing in on stations to see who they are just as quickly. A big time saver from manually having to tune each band kHz by kHz to find stations. Now I've got to finish the NAQCC EU Chapter challenge which should be just as easy. Then after our special February NAQCC sprint and the ARRL DX Contest it's on to our March Submarine challenge. The NAQCC has really been instrumental in increasing my activity on the ham bands beyond just getting my daily 'streak' QSO. I'm sure glad we started this club a little over 8 years ago.

N8XMS: A lot of fun as always!

WU1V: My first NAQCC QRP Challenge sweep! Accomplished in 36 QSOs by Feb. 18th. Most of the contacts were ragchews. Rig is a Yaesu FT-450D at 5 watts to a 20-meter half-wave sloping dipole. A large number of my QSOs were on 80 meters (yes, 80), many on 40, the rest on 30, 20 and 15 meters. ZS6JBJ, by the way, was in South Africa, 7900 miles away! Not a lot going on this month elsewhere, so I could really focus in on this Challenge. Thanks for the great idea, Don! This was a lot of fun. I'm hooked on QRP (just started in December).

N9AKF: After a sweep in the SKCC January anniversary event, I was looking for more CW fun. When I saw the NAQCC word challenge for February, I said to myself, "self, that's just what you're looking for." And I was right. My second qso was with John, K3WWP, (cool) so I was off to a good start. Between Feb 2, 0147z and Feb 18, 0140z, I managed to work stations with all of the letters that I needed. I operated mostly on weekends, but worked a few stations in the evenings. Here are my stats: Worked 27 stations to get all letters. Shortest qso, 4 minutes. Longest qso, 27 minutes. Total qso time, 385 minutes (about 6.42 hours). Average qso time, 14 minutes & 15 seconds. Amount of time I enjoyed operating, 100%. I like radio with a purpose, so hunting letters is very rewarding. It's fun to see how the words take shape. And though contests and sprints also have their purpose, in comparison hunting letters is very casual. Another plus is that I can work them on my schedule as time permits. If you've never tried one of these word challenges, you should consider it.

K1YAN: Twenty seven days and 49 QSOs to get them all. Wish the higher bands would open up here to get at some of those letter-rich DX calls.

W2JEK: LOTS OF FUN REGARDLESS OF HOW LONG THE WINTER WILL BE.

VE3FUJ: This time I had an abundance of most letters, except L's and T's, with another 3 L's and one T I would have made it. Brion

K1IEE:Another great challenge and fun to do on a cold, snowy and very windy day's in Maine. Thanks to all, 73 Dick

KD0V: Another interesting challenge. Merlin - KD0V

PREMISE:
This is the month the little furry creatures we call groundhogs boldy come forth and make their prognostications for the final six weeks of winter. This challenge was first suggested by Don VE3HUR.

TIME FRAME:
The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z

RULES:
Simply make all the words in the list below from the calls of stations you work to master the challenge. NO contest or sprint QSO's allowed. QSO's must be made using CW and QRP. The locations in parentheses are there just for information and are not part of the words to be made.

PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL (Punxsutawney, PA)
WIARTON WILLIE (Wiarton, ON)
GENERAL BEAUREGARD LEE (Snellvile, GA)
JIMMY THE GROUNDHOG (Sun Prairie, WI)
SIR WALTER WALLY (Raleigh, NC)

For reference, the following (20) letters are contained somewhere in the words:
A B D E G H I J L M N O P R S T U W X Y

You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's.

Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words.

See the Alphabet Tutorial page for an excellent way to track any and all of our alphabet type challenges.

AWARDS:
A certificate goes to anyone making all the names.

PARTICIPATION AWARD AND WEB LISTING:
To get a Participation Point and to be listed on the web site you must make at least one name and report your results.
