I finished the challenge at 8:36PM EDT on the 2nd when N1HFE answered my CQ to give me the final letter (E). Now I need five "1s" and one "zero" to wrap up the EU Chapter Challenge. I'll have done that long before you read this around April 20 or so, since we don't post results until around that time to keep them more like personal challenges rather than competition to see who "gets there first". DX calls are so much more helpful than USA calls in getting letters, and especially when you have a call like HK1/LW9EOC to work with. I got 9 letters from that one call. Fun,fun, fun, but now after I finish the EU Chapter challenge, where do I go from there? HI Maybe do them both all over again for my own amusement?? WU1V: Luckily only 21 callsigns were all I needed for this challenge. I was very active DXing and two of the stations went toward my WAC QRP award. DX countries I contacted for this challenge were Canada, Italy, Czech Republic, Belarus, Mexico, Brazil, Hungary, Sweden, Ukraine, and Australia. I really enjoy these challenges, a real stimulus for me to make QRP contacts. It's fun towards the end of the month to tally up my QRP (non-sprint!) log and match callsigns to the list. 72/73 to all, and thanks NAQCC for an enjoyable event. - Rick K1IEE: Another great challenge. Found the bands up and down most of the month. Thanks to all. 73 Dick N8XMS: I managed to catch all of the fish but it was a close one! I was really short on E's and with about 1 hour of remaining available time on the 30th I managed to work EA2AJB, EA1NE, and VE3FUJ! What makes this one even more special is that, with one letter exception from special event W0S, everything that I used was a DX call. That's the first time that I have been able to do that. Tons of fun! W2JEK: HAD A GOOD TIME WORKING THESE STATIONS. HAVE STARTED ALREADY ON THE MAY CHALLENGE. 72 AND 73 DON YOUNGER W2JEK NAQCC # 1135 PREMISE: Last year we used dog names and cat breeds for two of our alphabet challenges. I (K3WWP) being an avid fisherman suggested to Tom WY3H we have a fish species challenge this year, so here we go. TIME FRAME: The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z RULES: Just make ALL the names of these 15 fish species I (K3WWP) have caught in the Allegheny River that runs through Kittanning from the letters in the call signs of stations you work: ALEWIFE BASS BLUEGILL CARP CATFISH DRUM MINNOW* MUSKIE PERCH PIKE SANDPIKE SAUGER SUCKER TROUT WALLEYE * - Suggested by KR9Z - thanks! The 21 different letters involved are: A B C D E F G H I K L M N O P R S T U W Y You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's. Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words. See the Alphabet Tutorial page for an excellent way to track any and all of our alphabet type challenges. AWARDS: A certificate and Participation Point go to everyone making all the words and submitting their report before the deadline. A Participation Point goes to everyone making at least 1, but not all the words and submitting their report before the deadline. PRIZES: Some challenges involve a prize. Check the Prize page in the main section of the web site for more info. LOGS: For your report, list the words you made and the station used for each letter in the word. The number of stations listed must be the same as the number of letters in each word, even though you use the same station for more than one letter as in: WORD - K3WWP, N2OD, WA8REI, N2OD Note how N2OD is listed for both the O and D. You may also include comments about the challenge. Please preface any comments you want posted with "SOAPBOX:" so we will know what you want posted and what is private. Send your results to: E-mail: You must type that address into your email program. Subject must read: (your call) NAQCC (month) Challenge For example: K3WWP NAQCC February Challenge Postal mail: Hap - K7HAP 8532 Canterbury Dr. Annandale, VA 22003 All entries must be RECEIVED before the 10th of the following month at 2400Z. |
