Soapbox:
SM5MEK: As always there is some letters harder to get than others. This time the letter S, but at last I got me the nice S as in SV0XCC/9. Also Swedish stns was hard to get mostly because of high level qrm from neighbours. Still fun to do this hunt as a product of my traffic on qrp cw.

KD0V: BAND CONDITIONS WERE VERY GOOD BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2 AND 8, WHICH MADE THE CHALLENGE RELATIVELY EASY THIS YEAR. IT ALSO HELP THAT IT HAD SOME FREE TIME DURING THE WEEK. OVER HALF OF THE LETTERS WERE OBTAINED USING A NORCAL 40A ON 40M. MANY HAMS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW WELL YOU CAN DO WITH QRP. 73, MERLIN

K9OSC: Again, a fine Challenge. Seemed to take forever for me to find a "Y" but it finally came. Good to work a number of QRP stations rag chewing each month through the Challenges.

W4ISI: WAS FUN AND RUFF BUT THAT IS JUST ME.

K1IEE: The band activity was great the first half of the month most likely caused by the DX contest. I do like the word challenges the best. 73 to all Dick

K3WWP: It came down to the wire (almost) this month. I got most of the letters the first half of the month, then ran into a brick wall because of lack of time, poor propagation, local noise, and the hardest of all - simply finding a letter T. But some great DX conditions on the 25th allowed me to not only get the last T from ES1TU for this challenge, but also the last letter for the European Chapter challenge as well. In fact I got the last 9 letters for the European Chapter challenge this day (25th). These challenges are just so fascinating, especially the alphabet ones which are my favorite, that I don't see why we don't get more participation in them. They are not really that hard, and they are not intensive like our sprints, but a relaxing month-long exercise that allows for a lot of CW activity on the bands which is one of the aims of the club. Even should you have a shortage of time, you can still partially complete a challenge, get a listing on the results page, and a participation point to boot. So please do me and yourself a favor and give it a try. You may find a whole new way to enjoy this wonderful hobby.

WU1V: This was a challenging challenge for me, but I achieved it by Valentine's Day, half way through (for me) an active QRP month. 23 callsigns were required, a good mix of US and DX stations worked. From here in Massachusetts, DX stations whose calls I used included Ireland, Italy, Norway, Finland, Romania, Sweden, Mexico, Germany, Cuba, US Virgin Islands, St Kittts-Nevis, Russia, Bulgaria, Spain and Brazil. Good propagation this month. I also worked but didn't use Canada, Colombia, Hawaii, Netherlands, Peru, France, England and Baleric Islands. This was a lot of fun as usual. 72 to all, Rick

AB9YC: Once again, I made plenty of contacts, but couldn't rope in the last few letters.

KI4TI: I just began seriously working QRP at the end of January. From the first throuth the 14th I worked 74 QSO's running 5 watts into either a dipole or a Cushcraft half-wave vertical. Of those 74 QSO's, 19 were 5000 miles or more. During the ARRL contest, I did not allow ham radio to interfere with the necessities of life (napping, gradening, a little wine, etc.) I still had 177 contacts of which 39 were over 5000 miles. The longest was over 8100 miles. Worked 56 countries. During this month long QRP experience I was very pleased to note that most stations will go out of their way and take extra time if they hear QRP - even when they are working a pileup. Needless to say this is my first QRP challenge and I really enjoyed it. I made all the contacts necessary those 14 days before the ARRL contest.

VE3FUJ: For a change I didn't Complete a single word this month, one more "R" would have done it. The Competition from the Olympics was just to much, it took a big chunk of time away from the Radio. The winter Olympics are the one I like best. Summer Olympics just don't have the same appeal. See you all next month. Brion 3011

WB0QQT: Well I didn't ace the whole thing but it was still a lot of fun chasing down stations for the much needed letters. As you can see, many eluded me. It was also a good time to get reacquainted with my little under utilized You Kits HB-1B rig. Am looking forward to the "Block Party" for the month of March and plan to use the "spotting schedule" more frequently as I would think it would be a big help in finding other stations. HI HI 72's to all.....Steve

WB9G: This took me the whole month to finish. "U" and "R" were my problem, and I got my final calls in on the last night. Thanks for all the QSOs, especially the DX stations that dug me out of the noise. 72 de Chris

K1YAN: Sure is nice to have the higher bands open and be able to work those letter rich DX calls. Doesn't take long to fill the quota of Ks,Ws and Ns !

W2JEK: THIS WAS A GOOD CHALLENGE. LAST LETTERS NEEDED WERE THE "U'S". 72 AND 73 DON YOUNGER #1135

This is the month the little furry creatures we call groundhogs boldy come forth and make their prognostications for the final six weeks of winter. This challenge was first suggested by Don VE3HUR.

TIME FRAME:
The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z

RULES:
Simply make all the words in the list below from the calls of stations you work to master the challenge. NO contest or sprint QSO's allowed. QSO's must be made using CW and QRP. The locations in parentheses are there just for information and are not part of the words to be made.

PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL (PA)
GENERAL BEAUREGARD LEE (GA)
JIMMY THE GROUNDHOG (WI)
SIR WALTER WALLY (NC)
STATEN ISLAND CHUCK (NY)

For reference, the 84 total letters contain the following (22) different letters:
A B C D E G H I J K L M N O P R S T U W X Y

You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's.

Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words.

See the Alphabet Tutorial page for an excellent way to track any and all of our alphabet type challenges.

AWARDS:
A certificate goes to anyone making all the names.
