Feb 2013 Straight Key/Bug Sprint (#100) K3WWP COMMENTS: The week-long time for appeals of scores is over now and the scores are "etched in stone" and no further changes can be made. We appreciate it when you do take time to check your scores and question us if they are changed. We're glad to let you know just where you went wrong, and according to the emails we get, you're glad to get that information. We did restore a couple not-in-log QSOs when the two parties in question contacted each other and determined the one party omitted the QSO from his log by accident. I'm not sure, but I think we may be the only sprint or contest that goes to those lengths to ensure accuracy. Our "near-live" prize drawing webcast is now history. It was exciting here and apparently very popular as we had an enormous increase in our daily number of "hits" on the web site for February 25. Here is the page we used to announce the winners and their prizes. Check it out if you haven't done so yet to see if YOU won anything. We'll be notifying the winners via email at the end of this week. Email with the subject "NAQCC Sprint Question". SOAPBOX: KJ4LEN - Was able to work the first 30 min. Had a lot of noise on 40 and 80 which made for difficult copy. Ray W9GFB - It has been a while, but still great fun! K9JWV - First time in this contest with my new Ten Tec Argonaut VI - fun to be able to filter out adjacent QRM for a change! Twenty meters was DAID out here in s/w Utah. Forty had lots of activity and eighty was starting to pick up when I had to QRT. Thanks to all for the "good ears"! WB4MNK - Bands at my QTH were terrible. Thanks to WB0PYF and K4ORD for my two contast. KC0PMH - First sprint in way too long, forgot just how much fun it is. Thanks to all who dragged my puny signal out of the pile-ups, you folks are special.72/3 es God Bless all de Wayne - KC0PMH VA3KUG - I missed the January Sprint so I was glad to be back for the February Sprint. I had difficulty tonight with copying stations and being heard. My rig was TS 480 at 5 watts into a ground mounted 5BTV. I look forward to next months Sprint! WB7EUX - Great time - mostly 40/80 - tnx to the organizers for setting this up. WU1V - Poor showing here, but at least I showed up! Nice to be part of the 100th sprint. Didn't hear many stations. QSB a big problem on 40, and chopping condx + QRN on 80. KB8FE - Weather good here in northern Ohio. Worked 40m and 80m. Fairly good number of stations heard. Need to do some antenna work so looking forward to some mild weather in the future. KC4GIA - Sri all for the poor fist. Working on it. Did not work many but had fun. K3RLL - K2 to 'after dark vertical' - Got unavoidable late start but happy to be a part of our 100th NAQCC Sprint. Lots of stations on tonight but few strong signals down into FL tonight. Thanks to those who pulled me out of the noise again. Sri I never have a strong signal (HOA antenna restrictions). 72, ... Don NM5S - Too noisy at my QTH and more motivation to get my RX loop up. WY5R - 40M and 80M were wide open and heard lot's of stations, but didn't seem to be a 2 way street. KA8HDE - Celebrated Valentine's Day tonight with the xyl (have to work the real night) so didn't get on until the end. Got one qso on 40M - K0EUN about 2 miles from my house and got a 339 - I should have known that was trouble. I didn't hear much else - alot of QSB. Tried a few more S&P but got no responses. Even K9OSC was about a 229 here on 80M and he never heard me. Oh well, got one in for the night. Better luck next time. 72 de chuck ka8hde N0TA - Thanks for the Q's. K3, vertical, GenLog. K4DXV - My first sprint in quite a while. Good to be back! Was quite regular for a a long time and then the wife and daughter both had major surgery plus medical issues with the parents, all of which have kept me off the air more than I would like. Not quite up to my former average in Q's tonight, but a lot of fun. Good to work W2MDW for the first time (thanks to Twitter); welcome to the sprints, Matt! Good to work my regular K1IEE from ME. There were some others that looked familiar but I'm not sure. Stayed on 40 the whole time. Still haven't gotten the 80m dipole back up after the April 2011 storms. Busy, busy band at first and it seemed to be in great shape, but big drop off in activity second hour. Guess everyone either went to 80 or was watching SOTU. Thanks to all who worked me, and proud to be part of the 100th sprint! Thanks for the e-mail reminder, too...I probably would have missed it otherwise. K2DEP - Had to resubmit. I enjoyed this sprint. There was a lot of action out there tonight. I used my Schurr straight key tonight. It is sooooo nice and soooo smooth. I am building a 1953 novice xmtr with separate power supply. Lots of fun but very hard to find the parts. Have all that I need now. Hope to use it in the sprints at 5 watts (I hope). 73 to all. Steve W4TZM - Called CQ in a contest for the first time and my head didn't explode. Not sure the same could be said for the people I worked after they had to listen to me wreck their call.... W1OH - Well, that was fun. Mostly S & P until the last 15 minutes. First time in a while that I've been able to do the whole sprint. Good conditions on 40M and 80M. Hope there was a good turnout; sure sounded like plenty of stations tonight! Thanks, NAQCC! W4ONC - Around 0250 I started hearing quite a few west coast stations on 40 meters. The closest I could get was Minnesota. As usual I had alot of fun on 40 meters. K8DRT - Ran out of hours in the day. Came in just at the last to complete 2 QSO's on 80. Always a pleasure.73K8DRTRay KE9DR - KE9DR - Sounded like activity on all bands, 20m seemed to die out after first hour. As always lots of fun. Thanks to everyone. 73 Bert KB4QQJ - Congratulations on the 100th NAQCC Sprint!! As always I had fun and found some new members and logged some old friends.. Always a pleasure.73 for now,Randy_KB4QQJ NU7Y - No luck on 20 meters. Bad noise conditions on 40 here in AZ, hope for better conditions next time. K4KRW - Happy hundredth! Missed watching Westminster for this. It was worth it. Conditions were great. Put up an 80m dipole since last sprint. Had been limited to 40m and above. Wow, what a difference. Great fun! Thanks everyone! W5YDM - Lots of 40m signals as usual. So many signals that I couldn't tell if people were calling me off frequency or someone else close to me, so I probably answered somebody else's calls. I checked 80m out for a short time but I kept getting W5's, so I went back to 40m. K2UFT, you had about the weakest signal I believe I have ever tried to copy, but we made it anyway, didn't we? I also got a rare contact with DC tonight, but no ND. I guess the snow is still too deep for them to come in and give me a confirmation so I can get this WAS QRP over with. W5ODS - 40 METERS WAS REALLY UP AND DOWN. 80M WAS WORSE. STAYED ON 40. GOOD TO HEAR LOTS OF NAQCC STATIONS ON TONIGHT. K2UFT - Used 6 different straight keys in the Sprint. Condx very unusual here in GA, did work CA for the first time in a Sprint on 40 meters. No one heard calling CQ NA on 80 m.WB2PEF was signing "1 W" but he is Member # 1122 so counted as member in the log. KD5MMM - very noisy hr tonight, glad to have made a few ..73 KD5MMM .. N8XMS - My local QRN on 40-meters was deafening. It sounded like I was in the middle of a summer thunderstorm and my ears are still ringing! After a while I moved to 80-meters where it was a little bit better. But the improvement was probably due to the fact that my old 40-10 multiband vertical is only slightly better than a wet piece of string on that band. My most exciting contact was with our newest member N4SX who joined the club only a couple of hours before the start of the sprint! Welcome to the NAQCC Randy. WA2JSG - Glad to be part of this 100th NAQCC sprint.Rig: IC-703, 5w to a vertical off a 12v battery. Big ole Kent straight key. See y'all next month. WY3H - No contacts till almost 0300Z. Found I had an intermittent SWR problem that took it through the roof. Got it more or less stabilized enought to make six QSOs in the last half hour of the sprint. That includes stopping twice to re-adjust. Very glad to be a part of our 100th sprint. Thanks to everyone who participated to make this a great success. Expecting a record number of logs. 72 WY3H KB0ETU - Band was noisy with QRM/QRN but plenty of signals to hear. Didn't try any of the other bands - just stayed on 40 meters. Only had a little over an hour to play. Better luck next month. Used K-2 with dipole up 35 feet. Lot of storms in the area. 72, Phil K9OSC - Great 100th Sprint! So many stations on it was great seeing so many old friends on again. Once again 40 meters was the best band here but many thanks for the stations answering me on 80 meters. I had lots of noise down there tonight. See you in March. K8FZY - had great time agn. thanks all. 73 steve k8fzy N3PDT - Happy 100th NAQCC Sprint! Thanks for running such a great event every month. Had some other commitments tonight, but still managed to sneak a few contacts in to help celebrate. 40m contact = K1 @4w, 80m contacts SW+ 80 @ 3w. Navy Flameproof key. Thanks to all. -Doug K4ORD - This was a nice sprint, Started on 40M worked 3qso's band seemed ok but not many NA ops there, on to 80M where everybody was and the band was in super shape for QRP operation, little QRN but the NR on the K3 mostly took care of that, had a great run and made 68 qso's on 80M, ran out of time before stations, great fun. Thanks to all for the QSO'S 73/72 Riley K5TRI - This was a mixed night. Started out on 20m ok with a few Qs and then moved to 40m. I don't have a real 80m antenna, so that was my only option. Overall more QSOs than last month which was good. Band conditions were all over the place which means not really stable. Had to pull quite a few stations out of the mud but we managed to work it. All in all, gud fun.72 de K5TRI AF3Z - Good condx on 80. I got on for about 40 minutes and had a great time. Thanks! Most encouraging, my rig had 'died' in January - shutting down at the first key down, even with the power set at minimum. A day ago I finally took it apart to see what I could see. I didn't find anything and put it back together. For kicks, I tried it out... and it was working again! And it kept working tonight! That's grace! VE3RCN - First...QRP works! Now, I noticed some discrepancies in member numbers. When filling in General Logger, it would sometimes automatically populate (default to) the state/prov and member number. I tried to change it to what they were sending but no luck. For example, VE3KQN was sending 2206. W3SH was sending 6145. Oh well. Happy 100th to all us QRPers. WU7F - TU 72 N5PHT - Thanks so much. First NAQCC contest (I am nr 3324) and I was using a homebrew 2 watt 40 meter rig! (Made by a friend not me)73 de N5PHT, Gary WA2NYY - At 8:30 I listened on 20 but it was dead, so I moved to 40. didnt hear much there either, so it was up to 80. Had a good run going for awhile on 80 and ran out of new ones by about 10 pm. Signals seemed to be stronger than last month. Went back to 40 and worked 4 more stations. Managed to have a couple of more qsos than last month, so I'm happy. K2YGM - Condx on 40 weren't that good here and were long. Switched to 80 and it was loaded with NAQCC contesters.. As usual it was a fun two hours, and glad to see some newcomers pounding the brass..Looking forward to the next sprint in March. WA4ZOF - Lot of lightning-QRN TNX to all .even so still enjoy the monthly sprint, see you all next mo.TOM WA4ZOF W6VFW - Well, I didn't make many contacts, but still had fun as always. Hope to see you all on the bands. 73 de Tony W2JEK - go on late so started on 80 and stayed there. band was very busy with good signals. used my ft-840 at 5w to 110 ft wire at 20 ft. also used signal electric r-48 straight key. lots of fun. 72 and 73 Don Younger W2JEK #1135 AD7TN - Congatulations on having 100th Sprint! Condx on 80m was good, and I was able to have 7 QSO which is my best result in Sprint I have participated so far. I would like to thank the team organizing this monthly Sprint. This is a great event with lots of fun!! 72 de AD7TN Noz K0CW - Enjoyed using my new 90 degree VIS-KEY (bug). Ran my K3 at 3 watts to a HyGain DX88 vertical. NA4O - Congrats to all on the 100th NAQCC Sprint..and especially to the organizers and volunteers! KI0I - WOW that was a great sprint! I think my best score yet.Started on 40m S&P then settled in and ran til 0230z then QSY to 80m. Found John (K3WWP) and pounced on him and a few more B4 running on3564 til the end. Some great sigs tonite both bands were hoppin`. Using a low long wire with an old ameco preamp for rcv on both bands and never hrd qrp`ers so loud hihi. I sure cud tell I had the advantage on rcv with all the 9 and 9plus sigs who sent back s5 and 7. Nice to have big ears anyway HIHI.Good to be in another NAQCC sprint after missing a few. 73/72 Mark K3WWP - I'm proud to be the only one who has now entered all 100 of our regular sprints - and all our special 160M and mW sprints also for that matter. I was thinking of something tonight as I was sitting there calling CQ. Our sprints are meant for participation and having fun, not so much for scoring. I was wondering just what kind of score I could get if I would mix in more S&P with my CQs. But then I thought if I do that, I lessen the fun impact since I absolutely love sitting there just calling CQ. That's FUN for me, so I'm living up to the purpose of our sprints. I also enjoy calling CQ in my normal non-contest hamming. There's something mysterious and exciting about not knowing who you are going to work as opposed to answering someone else's CQ. Well, enough about that. Let's talk about something I hate about our sprints. Hate? Yes, I hate it when I just can't copy someone who is calling me and it really makes me feel bad. Having said that, I must apologize to the W4 I couldn't copy and WY5R who tried to call me at the very end of the sprint. I got the WY and the R, but couldn't put it all together to make a call. I see WY5R submitted a log, so it was him. Thanks to everyone who joined in our 100th sprint. I hope all of you will submit a log so you can be eligible for the prize drawing in a week or so. 73 N4SX - My first NAQCC Sprint. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to you all for the qso's. 72 Randy N4SX WB5WLZ - First time. Rig. KX3. Used small Hungarian Military straight key.Thx for promoting cw.73, Bob WB3T - Started on 20 meters but it was closed here. Then to 40 meters with the K2, but nothing heard due to high noise level. Went to 80m and had a blast! Later I tried 40 again but still noisy - I broke out the Wilderness Sierra and made 6 Qs there. Love that low noise rx section! All analog, no digital hash so QRPers got through. Apologies to K3GW or KU4GW or KU3GA, I couldn't get the call correct so didn't count it. I even think there were two of you in there but could not verify that or which station was calling. Actually I called KU4GW and may have gotten a response from someone else. At that time I was still on 80 with the K2. Shoulda gone to the Sierra sooner! Anyway maybe next time, hopefully the noise will be down. 72/73 from Eastern PA. W2MDW - My first sprint! A little daunting at first, and I needed ops to QRS, but I'm already itching for next month and I'll hopefully be able to operate for the full duration! 73! VE3DTI - For this sprint I used an Elecraft KX3 set at 4.5 W (as determined with an Elecraft DL1). The Alexloop antenna was indoors. The straight key was a Viking SpeedX. 73 de Jose VE3DTI. AB4QL - Interesting conditions! I was not having much luck on either 40 or 80 at first. 40 finally opened a little better and worked it some. I tried k6mgo but he just could not hear me through the qrm & qsb. At about 0315 an extremely high qrn level came up and I switched to 80 again and made a couple more contacts before closing. Thanks to all and I hope to be on next month! Barry N1HWI - Wow, that was fun. That's the first on-air CW I've worked in 20 years. Rusty? You betcha. Nervous? Yup but the two(!) stations I worked were extremely patient with me. TNX to KG4UPO es VE3RCN for putting up with with this returning op. The NAQCC's mission to reel in more CW operators was a success here. Cheers es 72 de Allan/N1HWI in SEVT. N8LA - Got a late start because I was trying to prepare my one-man party (the IDIOT [I Do It Offensively Too] Party) response to the State of the Union speech. I finally decided that I was at a loss for words for a response and jumped into the sprint. Many (too many!) stations on 80. Had a hard time separating them even with a 300 Hz filter! Did manage to work six in twenty-two minutes. I Hope I didn't open a "can of worms" by mentioning politics. I hope I feel like I opened a box of Cracker Jacks when the prize winners are announced! N1MB - Most everyone was coming in 559-599 tonight. Station: Norcal 40A running 2 watts into a Gap Voyager DX IV located about 200 feet behind the house in a creek bed. The key was a Bencher straight key. The Norcal runs full break-in qsk. I actually looked at other bands on my IC703 like 20, 160 and 80M but nothing heard. Seems like everything was on 40. Anyway thanks to NAQCC and the stations I worked tonight for making this another fun Sprint. W7GAH - 20m quiet - 40m lots of activity, some solid and many weak signals with QRN and QSB, 80m a few weak signals with in the noise. All contacts on 40m. I thank those that worked through the QSB. Hope the 100th sprint will produce a record number of logs. 73/72 until next time NF8M - Very noisy at my QTH and was limited on time but wanted to participate in sprint #100. Better luck next month! KG3W - Better conditions tonight. 80 was much better this sprint, since I found my computer router was the cause of most of my local QRN. On the negative side I lost my dipole to high winds, so had to run with a random wire for the contest. Can't fix the dipole till the weather warms up. Lot's of very strong signals tonight. Nice to hear so many stations with numbers in the 6 thousands. These monthly club sprints are always fun and the more sprinters, the merrier. (72) everyone and have a great day! de Scotty KG3W KG9HV - Very enjoyable sprint. Tnx to all who participated. 73 John KG9HV K7DJO - I got rolling making 3 contacts in the first 15 min. At that point my vintage straight key gave up the ghost forcing me to QRT... I'll try again next month with a repaired key or a replacement. I had lots of fun while it lasted. 73, John K7DJO, Utah KD8EZS - did not hear very many stations, too much noise, will try again K1YAN - Band went in and out ... lost a few into the noise with rapid change of propagation. Fun sprint and think my best Q count yet. FB 100th !! N5QN - Only had just one hour time to work, I heard many stations, but unfortunately turned out to be a "one-way street". Thanks for QSOs! KE5YUM - Another great sprint! I worked four due to time, but three contacts were new to me. K9OSC always has a great signal from MN; thanks to K2HT for digging me out of the noise; K0ALN was a new call for me; my most distant contact was all the way to Plymouth, MA to K1YAN, another new contact. All the best, Terry N8BB - Had fun all S&P with my new KX3. 40 meters really was sad but 80 seemed to pick up as time went by. Thanks to all, had another fun evening WB8ENE - Started off on 40, but shortly after, I moved to 80, where there were some quite strong signals. K9OSC, sorry about the confusion on the partial call. I had to make a transmitter adjustment, and stopped in the middle of your call. Thanks to all for the contacts. 73, Art AB9YC - Not much time, but made some contacts. Fun as usual. Bands seemed less noisy at my QTH for this event. KB4TOX - CONTEST ARE NOT MY THING, BUT IT WAS DIFFERENT....NOT SURE IF I'LL DO IT AGIN AS THERE IS NO WAY I CAN COMPETE...73 TO ALL!! KD2MX - Despite limited time tonight, I enjoyed this special sprint.Started on 40m as usual but conditions seemed rather terrible. Quickly moved over to 80m and it was full of activity. N3SW - Glad to be able to participate in the 100th Sprint. My apologies for inflicting my "bug" fist on some twenty forgiving NAQCCers. After forty years as an electronic keyer user, I am now learning to use a semi-automatic key. It is a WWII-era TAC Co. CP-510. 72 to all. W4DUK - First tried 20m - nothing. Quickly moved to 40m for one contact, and then on to 80m for the rest. Tnx to all for a good sprint. 73, Dave K9EYT - Stayed on 40, most signals were weak here in the Tampa Bay area.IC-706 5W to a ground mtd mobile Hustler antenna. Always a good time. Ray K9EYT/4 VE3FUJ - I enjoyed this sprint as usual. I had a nice mix of multipliers for a change. It was slow going on 40, so abt 1/2 time I went to 80, I've heard ravings about it, found it mainly unoccupied, tried a few CQ's and a few tail-ends without luck, went back to 40 after about 10 mins. and got 3 more contacts. Thanks to everyone and see you next month. Brion 3011 WB8LZG - Great sprint tonight , glad to hear so many ops on fer our 100th sprint. 40 was a bit noisy but lots of sigs. 80 was crowded. had a blast as usuall. hope to see u all next month. 73 Gregg KQ1P - Happy 100th! What a great crowd on 80M for the sprint, 40M didn't produce well here. 73 John K2GLS - Good propagation on both 40m and 80m with low noise levels tonight. Lots of multipliers. Thanks to all who heard me in this 100 NAQCC Sprint. 72, 73 K2GLS WA1GWH - Wow! Wall-to-wall participants! Thanks for the contacts folks. W1SFR - My first NAQCC sprint. Surprised to hear all of the activity on 80m. 40 was totally dead. I wonder what's up with that? I parked there for awhile and called, but no takers so it was back to 80 where things were hoppin' VE3HNE - Band condx here were a bit noisy and some qsbworked four stations but missed some info on w9oes and c6akq soonly loged two hope to do better next time.Might need to do some work on the HW-8 that is used. Thanks to those that I worked and a tip of the hat to all whoput on this great sprint. WG8Y - Hi all,Just did S&P this sprint.Sinus headache! No 20 again so went to 40.C6AKQ was S9+ for 1st Q. Worked CA.& NV.abt an hour in on 40.Cool.Went to 80 abt 1/2 hr left and it was jumping.VE3RCN,you were S9+ for our Q! Always enjoy the Sprints and here's to the next 100 Sprints!72 all, Tnxs for a fun 2 hours. Mark WG8Y WD4E - Couldn't hear anything here on 20 and 40 wasn't all that great. Had the usual qrn on 80, but lots of good signals there. As usual, lots of fun. KA2KGP - Only 1 QSO on both 20m. & 40m., all other contacts were on 80m. where conditions were good this sprint. Rig: TenTec Argosy II at 5w. into all band dipole up 25 ft. with a straight key. 73 W4MPS - Congrats on the 100th Sprint. This is a great groups of Ops! Although I have only participated in a couple of sprints, I'll be doing more in the future. It really is a lot of fun. I started on 20, then went to 40 before settling in on 80. I thought I would find a lot more activity on 20 and 40 than I did, but I was busy on 80 from 0207 to the end of the sprint. I recently constructed a wooden straight key, hand made from scratch, which I used in the sprint. Yes, it's wood, with brass fittings and contacts. Worked well, although I certainly need a lot more straight key sending practice- HI. I'll send a photo of it. Thanks to all for a great event. 72, Marc W4MPS (N.C.) #6259 W0GN - All stations worked sent me a number, so I counted them as two points but left the log as scored by the program. My antenna came down the day before, so it was jury rigged as high as I could reach above ground. W8RTJ - Was watching the dog show an almost forgot the sprint . Just stayed on80m this time condx pretty good . Thanks to all I worked an sorry forthe couple I just could not pull out . 72 to all cu next time . JIM W8RTJ W9CC - I enjoyed the sprint, so did my Boston Spark key. VE3XT - Had a great time and for the first time I got on 80 with my KX1. Usually use the K1 and it does not have 80. Now I know where all the action is. N8IUP - Great time. Tnx es 73 VE5BCS - It was a pleausure to be a part of the 100th sprint. thanks to all who pulled out my week sig. This feels good after getting skunked in the 160m sprint WD7Y - My first time on the NAQCC sprint, had a lot of fun the two hours went by very fast. Ed/WD7Y Not sure if there is any thing else to fill out for log Date of Sprint was 2/12/2013 K6MGO - Started on 20m, which seemed dead with high noise but CQ produced 3 QSO's within first 30 minutes of Sprint. 40m had high noise and few signals but did get 4 on 40m, all with indoor antenna. Had fun, Congrats to all on 100th Sprint. 73 de Bill AI4VA - Been away from the Sprint for about 6 months, life got in the way. Great fun and CW practice. Tnx to all, 72 Dave. KE7YTE - I started on 20m but the band closed down soon after. I then tried 40m but had to compete with major QRN from local EMI which happens now every evening at my QTH. Very frustrating but I did have fun up to a point. Tnx NO2D - Tried working the fox hunt and sprint at same time. Confusing. Got one fox and 5 sprinters, including my first DX, C6AKQ, who was on a fine run and should have a great score. Other fox was much too close, as we are both in northeastern Colorado. Both the sprint and the fox hunt are fun and very challenging. WX4RM - Started off on 20 meters, only had 1 qso, tnx w5iqs for hearing me. Went to 40 meters until band went long and brought with it much noise. Seemed like I should have gone to 80 meters sooner, lots of signals. Glad to be heard tonite! C6akq booming in to the Blue Ridge Mountains here, tnx for pulling me out of the din. KG4UPO - I tried 20 meters for 15 minutes and made only 1 contact. I went to 40 meters and was overpowered by local data persons. 80 meters was the band for me where I camped out and made 32 of my 34 contacts. My thanks to all who endured my fist but special thanks to my best "DX" for the evening, VE5BCS, in Saskatchewan, 1599 miles. All in all, a very nice evening and a new record score for me. Thanks to all who helped and responded to tiny RF. KU4A - Bands seemed a lot perkier than recent Sprints. Some very loud signals out there. K0EUN - Started on 40 mtrs and was pleasantly surprised at the great number of S9+20 signals. Pileups caused slow-downs as I tried to sort each call, at times not too successfully because I wasn't prepared for that kind of activity with almost perfect band conditions. And then a strong signal would suddenly disappear mid-contact. 20 was great for me! Too late I switched over to 80 meters but was happy to add a few contacts. Looking forward to a fun "next time." KE3HL - Well - I had the radio warmed up, the antenna tuned, my notebook ready ... and at 8:30 sharp a visitor showed up! Eventually at 9 he asked about the Morse code sounds emanating from the other room and I had a chance to evangelize for Ham Radio and CW. Unfortunately, as I was a bit distracted by showing him what was going on, I think that I gave my first QSO (KG4UPO) a slightly scrambled version of my member number! Despite my K2 being opened up and spread out due to some rework (fixing the KAT2 - I had the original sense diodes out and temporarily had Germanium diodes shoved in the appropriate pads via friction fits ...)I had a good time. I had to pull out all the stops and use every trick that the K2 offered (100 Hz XTAL Filt., AF Filt, CW-R) but I was very happy to work W5YDM in Texas. Lots of members on last night (and the submitted logs show that). NX8Z - Enjoyed this Sprint very much! Did not hear NA sigs on 20 meters. Stayed on 40. Perhaps better nighttime prop? TU NAQCC for these great events! 72! N6CMF - Been a while since QRV for the sprint. Truly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. 80 meter band had weaker signals and some noise. Thanks for the fun. 73 Phil, N6CMF N9RLO - I was able to get on 40 meters for a little while and made five QSO's. By the last hour QSB was getting heavy on 40 and I made my last QSO on 80. Used my IC-718 at 5w with my Junkers straight key. All in all, signals were fairly strong. I'm looking forward to Spring so that I can do some much needed antenna work. I need to replace the wire on my center-fed zepp and get my vertical back up. also want to put up a loop of some sort. If I get half of that done, I'll be amazed! hi hi. Thanks guys, 73 to all! John N9RLO N6MQL - Thank you for the fun times. Can't wait for the next one! Happy 100th WV8P - Very relaxing sprint. Would like to have worked more but was tired and was happy just to get on again. Looking forward to sprint 101. CU down the log, 72. Dave W2LJ - Congratulations, NAQCC, on your 100th sprint! It was good to be here for it. Rig was the K3 at 5 Watts, Key was my SKCC Straight Key #33 (very close to my NAQCC membership number!). It was good hearing everyone, wish I could have worked more of you. I was surprised to make three contacts on 20 Meters - could Spring/Summer be far away? 73/72 de Larry W2LJ N9KR - OK conditions on both 80 and 40 here in southern Indiana. Good to hear so many signals. Only worked a few but had fun as usual. 73, Bob. KA6AIL - Has a late start, but still had a great time. 40m had a lot of signalstonight. Still looking for more action on 80m on the left coast.72's and see you next month. K1IEE - Spent the first half hour on 40M then went to 80M. Conditions were good and at times it sounded like everyone was on 80M. Had high expectations of of making a higher score but because of QRM it did not happen. It was a good time. Nice to work Jim W1FMR, Carl WA1ZCQ/1 and Charles W2SH in the sprint after our luncheon last weekend. Thanks to all 73 Dick AC8LJ - Got a late start, but as always, the Sprint was great fun! Thanks to all! WB2LQF - 20M was dead and 40M was near-death so I went to 80M where the noise level was S7. Since I don't have an 80M antenna I just used my 44' 40 through 6 meter attic doublet which my SG237 autocoupler was only too happy to match to below 2:1. I remain amazed at what can be accomplished at 3 watts with the "wrong antenna" in lousy conditions when CW is used and the rig is world class. I'm referring to my KX3 here! AI4SV - Glad I was able to make it for the 1st hour of this anniversary event. Tried 20, and was surprised not to hear more activity. I heard lots of stations on 80m, but have a very inefficient antenna, so I meandered on 40m. Tnx all! 72 - Jack W2SH - At the start 20m was barely and briefly open allowing for just three QSOs, of which one was via ground wave. 80m was the more stable of the two lower bands and most of my time was spent there. A couple of 40m QSOs were made in the 7.030 mHz area. K7HAP - Ruf conditions in AZ on 40m -- hi noise and qsb. AK3X - I play in a band that has a standing gig every Tuesday evening,.. came right home, turned on my 40M rig and heard N3LL calling CQ. Got my one QSO at about 0320 and then the wife had other plans for me. 72 til next time.. Peter, AK3X K4NVJ - About 0230z I heard k3wwp calling. I tried and tried to work him. He heard me but could not make out my call. Conditions were tough from the deep south. Joe KQ2RP - Was busy with other things, but just had to pop into the shack and make a cameo appearance for this milestone sprint. 80m seemed in great shape. Wish I could have played longer. TNX for the Fun! ~ Chris kQ2RP W4ISI - Looking forward to next time and I hope the bands will be better! KN2G - KN2G here, this was my very first contest outside of Field Day. First CW contest too. Special thanks to VE3KQN for digging my 339 signal out of the mud. It was nice to work K3WWP (for the second time) and in a contest no less! This ol' farmer just may learn to stay up "late" since it is more fun than rasslin' a hog in a waller! KA9FQG - Congrats to all on operating in the 100th sprint. Nice to hear NV, CA, WA, NM stations from here in NE Indiana on 40m around 0200-0300Z. Each sprint is different with changing band conditions but they are always fun. N2CN - Great sprint! Lots of activity on 80 and 40. W5IQS - Had visitors in shack and much conversation so info such asband in use may not be absolutely accurate. I finally just gave up on the contest. Too many questions about Morse Code, hand key, 5 watts etc. Sorry if there are errors . Evan, W5IQS NQ2W - Ten-Tec Jupiter @ 5W to a mini beam at 25' for 20, an inv V at 40' for 40, and a ground mounted vert for 80. Happy 100th Sprint NAQCC! I am proud to be a part this historic event. Made 3 Q's on 20, 7 on 40, and 14 on 80. I've been doing some work on the 80 meter vertical. I think 14 Q's is my 80 meter record - so the work may be paying dividends - or maybe it was just conditions and lots of QRPers on 80. Now if I could just get rid of that lousy city QRN on the low bands. In any case, it was quite enjoyable. Thanks for all the contacts and thanks to the organizers. Hopefully, I'll hear you all again next month. 72, Will, NQ2W. KB1UOH - 40 M was tough. I could hear lots of weak signals but they couldn't hear me. QSB was working over time. 73 Charlie NA0L - First NAQCC Sprint! ND9M/0 - Fun contest, as expected. Although I identified only as portqable, my station was technically mobile as I operated from my car in a motel parking lot. There was certainly no shortage of stations on the air to work! WB4UHC - 40 mtrs was in good shape but not many stations and lots of QRN, heard AZ and ID from SE VA. Lots of stations on 80 but ganged up! Had lots of fun and worked some new stations. NN9S - Still a CW newbie at 11 WPM; first time calling CQ and getting responses! I normally only search and pounce. :-) K0ALN - Better results this month. 40 was solid here through the 2 hours. 80 seemed pretty sparse, so only got 1 contact there (I just need a better antenna!) Even had a short pile-up to my CQ for a couple of minutes! See you all next month. W8DW - Band was noisy but OK but had my problems, thanks to VE3KQN for hanging in there with me i couldn't even copy my own CW (hi hi), my key stopped working i thought a wire problem but then it just fell apart. Went to my J-37 to finish the night. Also found out that I have a coax problem that needs to be fixed but it has to warm-up for that. 72's see you next month hopefully with all fixed. N1RU - This was my first sprint in a while, and it was good to be on again. I used my new Kenwood TS590 at 5W to my attic full wave loop. Conditions weren't good on 40, but it was nice to get a few early QSOs on 20. 72, James (NE Indiana). See General Sprint Rules for rules common to every NAQCC sprint.
